What's New?

This page lists important changes available in each version of Depiction.

Version 1.4.3 (build 12606 Oct 2, 2014)

  • Removes two non-functioning background tilers from imagery list.
  • Other minor fixes

Version 1.4.3 (build 12525 May 15, 2013)

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixes problem with initial geo-coding of starting location
  • Fixes bug with the done button not working when adding multiple items
  • Temporary folders are now properly deleted
  • Road network not loading completely fixed by changing node from 32 bit to 64bit integer. This problem was caused by the OpenStreetMap data base exceeding 2 billion nodes.
  • Now double tab isn't created in a browser when clicking on a url link in a label or annotation.
  • Fixes an issue with exported GML files not loading properly

Version 1.4.2 (build 12450 September 25 2012)

Enhancements:

  • Emails sent from Live Reports can now be sent with a tag. This allows the Live Report reader to filter emails and only select those that are relevant to the Live Report session. The format is //DT{tag1,tag2,tag3}// and this has to be at the end of the subject line. If you send an element via Depiction the tag is automatically created in the outgoing email.
  • The 'Fwd:' is now parsed out of Live Report emails.
  • 'Location' can now be used by Live Reports as a position property.
  • Interaction dialog can now disable/enable all available interactions.
  • Addition of the Place of Worship element and icon.

Bug Fixes:

  • Live report emails are now processed in the order in which they are recieved by the source email address.
  • Live reports sessions now only update elements from emails that have not been processed.
  • Depiction no longer becomes minimized after user closes the element icon change dialog.
  • Depiction handles stored save locations that no longer exist (such as flash drives) with more grace.
  • The degree symbol (°) is now exported correctly to a CSV file
  • Other misc. fixes.

Version 1.4.1 (Build 12242, Released 5/18/2012)

Bug Fixes:
This release was to fix a bug that was causing Depiction to appear that it was starting and then it would just go away. This appeared only to happen when only version 1.4 or 1.4.1 was installed.

Version 1.4.1 (Build 12233, Released 5/15/2012)

Enhancements:

  • Background tiling sources are now displayed when mousing over the tiler UI.
  • The filter on manage and display content now takes regular
expressions. Regular expressions allow you to do operations such as OR. For example the string "Apple" would match all elements containing "Apple" in the hovertext. The OR operator is "|" and as such the string "Apple|Orange" would match all
elements containing either Apple or Orange in their hovertext. (This symbol is
found above the “\” key just below the “backspace” key).
  • When geo-coding from a csv file, if an element that is created with seperate address fields does not have an exact coordinate, it is displayed with a red border.
  • Added the option to hide the world outline in the setting dialog.

Bug Fixes:

  • Multiple fixes for "send live report".
  • Fix for crash when zooming way out.
  • Fix for printing the map without menus.

  • LiveReports Pop3 sources can now set a non default port.
  • Shapefile loading performance improvements.
  • Removed USGS Black and White and USGS Urban imagery sources due to the pending unavailability of the feed on May 1, 2012 from Microsoft TerraServer. USGS Topo maps will no longer be available on this date as well, but we are leaving it in until that date.
  • Live Reports now resets the SMTP server instead of opening a new session for each live report meaning that fewer systems resources are used.
  • Because of performance concerns the Road Network element can no longer be displayed in a revealer or in the Display menu. The Road Network can still displayed via the Manage Content dialog.
  • Alternate quickstart data source – Elevation Data (Seamless) - This is an alternate source to the Elevation Data that we currently host on our server only one of the two should be loaded.
  • Zooming and panning with the background tilers is now done in a more seamless manner.
  • A new element type called Image2 has been added. An image can now be loaded into Depiction into the image2 element and it will display when chosen as hovertext in a label format.
  • Elimination of the sample files.
  • Most GEOTIFFs can now be imported into Depiction

Version 1.01.e (build 7821)

New features:

  • You can use Yes, No, Y, N, T, and F to indicate boolean values for properties, as well as the standard TRUE and FALSE. The text is case-insensitive, so TRUE, True and true all work, for instance.
  • The new "Line of Sight" element replaces the "Tower - line of sight" element. The Line of sight element is more flexible, and much more efficient. Adjust its horizontal sampling to change the horizontal resolution used; larger values gives faster results.
  • The new Antenna element shows where the ground is visible from an antenna at a given height above ground level.
  • Added a new Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle element.
  • You can enter and display latitude and longitude in many different formats, including degrees, minutes, and seconds.
  • You can move the Geo-align Image control, just like all the others.
  • You can cancel loading or saving a DPN file, though it may not cancel as quickly as you would like.
  • Elevation files that are too large, are automatically down-sampled to a lower resolution in order to still load them.
  • Live reports:
    • Handles more emails, such as emails with attachments sent by Microsoft Outlook. (The attachments are ignored.)
    • Honors the Element type property; it can be used to specify the element definition to use for the element created from this email.
    • Automatically uses the email's MessageID field as the element's EID, if the email does not specify an EID. This guarantees that all depictions reading the same email will generate an element with the same EID. This in turn guarantees that any updates to this element that then are sent by email from a depiction will properly update that element in all depictions that receive that update email.
  • Element emails generated by Sent to email are easier for people to read.
  • The Add Content control is much easier to use.
  • The Samples button on the first screen can be used to open any of four sample depictions installed with Depiction.
  • Choosing Auto-detect when importing from a CSV file or from Live reports now creates Point of interest elements when the data source does not specify an Element type.
  • Depiction only imports CSV files with columns that will allow geo-aligning. If those columns are missing, it informs the user and aborts the import.

Fixed many bugs, including:

  • The lists in Depiction's controls, such as Manage Content, now correctly reflect what actually is selected.
  • Elements loaded from a file, such as GML file, correctly show their zones of influence. (The bug was that some zones of influence would not be shown initially, making it look like not all of the elements had been imported.)
  • Elevation is properly geo-aligned for large depictions. (The bug was that the elevation would be slightly mis-aligned in large depictions.)
  • Quickstart data sources are available for depictions opened by double-clicking on a DPN file.
  • Elements whose zones of influence were manually changed by the user now keep those changes when their depiction is re-loaded.
  • If you use an image for an element, change the contents of the image file, and then use it for an element, Depiction now loads the new image for the second use.
  • Live reports properly handles the EID (Element ID) property, so that multiple emails with the same EID will all update a single element. (The bug was that multiple emails with the same EID could result in multiple elements.)
  • Print is fast now, though the resolution is not as good. (This gets around a bug in the underlying printer driver that causes printing to take minutes and minutes.)
  • The Web service tab works better.
  • The simple country outlines visible in the background are correctly geo-aligned.
  • Choosing Copy element to library no longer modifies the element being copied.
  • Changed Plume to have at most 20 sides for its zone of influence. This makes it much more performant when used in interactions.

Version 1.01.d (build 7362)

New features:

  • The new US National Weather Service 24-hour forecast Quickstart data source loads US weather forecasts as elements in your depiction.
  • Once in a depiction, you can update the weather forecast data by clicking Add on the menu, click Quickstart, select the United States National Weather Service 24-hour forecast data source, and finally click Add. Depiction will replace the old weather data with the latest data.
  • The new Fluid flow element simulates fluid flowing from a point source like a broken water main.
  • New elements such as Power line downPower outage report, and Utility crew can be used depicting problems with the electric grid.
  • New elements Water line break report and Water over roadway can be used depicting flooding reports. Water over roadway will block road routes, just like the Road barrier element.
  • You can easily exchange individual interactions among users. Use the Interactions Import and Export buttons.
  • You can select more than one property to show when you mouse-over an element. Use the Element / Group Information control's Set label / hover text to choose the properties to show. These properties also are used to create the label for this element.
  • You can geo-align point data that ends up in the elements to geo-align tab of Manage Content. Use the Geo-align button.
  • Depiction's DPN files are smaller. When a depiction is saved, only the images that are used are saved to the DPN file.

Fixed many bugs, including:

  • The TerraServer Quickstart data sources now work reliably on Windows XP.
  • Colorizing elements now produces the expected set of colors, in that when you use a color range, colors on the left of the range are used for smaller property values.
  • The elevation data no longer stretches when saved to a DPN file. (It had been stretching very slightly toward the south-west.) Depictions saved with Depiction 1.01.b or earlier may exhibit this problem.
To see if your depiction has this problem, show Elevation and zoom in on the lower right corner of your depiction area. If the same elevation data is outside the orange area box, the elevation has been stretched. To fix this problem, delete your Elevation element and then re-add it.
