Depicting the Fourmile Fire

The recent Fourmile Fire near Boulder, Colorado, was the costliest in Colorado's history. As the fire progressed in early September, Russell Deffner--a Depiction Preferred Consultant, freelance journalist, volunteer wildland firefighter, and the volunteer GIS specialist for the American Red Cross Mile High Chapter--began depicting the extent of the fire using Depiction mapping software and many public resources that became available. Since the fire, the Fourmile Fire depiction has been used by multiple people involved in the recovery process in various ways.

In this webinar, Russell Deffner will describes how the depiction was created, and how it has been used as a common operating picture and in other ways since the fire. To learn more, read Russell's "Depiction of the Week" blog post.
